19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent saved four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
